An Idaho Falls-based group fighting a proposed state lottery is scouring the state, urging Idahoans to learn from the example of California about the pitfalls of lottery programs.
Representatives of Idaho Is Too Great To Lotter barnstormed through Boise, Twin Falls, Idaho Falls and Pocatello recently, accompanied by a Methodist minister from Sacramento who led an unsuccessful anti-lottery coalition in California.Harvey Chinn, vice president of the National Coalition Against Legalized Gambling, said the California lottery established in 1985 has deteriorated into a mechanism for stripping money from the poor.
