The Salt Lake County Jail has received a two-year accreditation award for medical and health care services from the National Commission on Correctional Health Care.

Bernard Harrison, commission president, told Sheriff Pete Hayward, "your accomplishment gives evidence that sound management . . . can provide needed medical care and health services in a cost-effective manner."

The commission, a coalition of medical, mental health, correctional and inmate advocacy organizations, was formed to improve health care in confinement facilities.
