Annual financial disclosure forms released by the Supreme Court Monday show that Justice Sandra Day O'Connor has become the wealthiest of the justices.

The position of most wealthy member of the court had long been held by multi-millionaire Justice Lewis Powell, who retired last June. But O'Connor, whose husband is a wealthy Washington attorney, took Powell's place this year with a form that listed assets worth $1.3 million to $1.8 million and income from those assets of $78,000 to $200,000.It is impossible to determine the exact worth of the justices because under the Ethics in Goverment Act, they are only required to report assets and income within a possible range of value.

In addition to the information listed on the forms, eight associate justices earn $110,000 a year, and the chief justice, $115,000.
