An application to establish a waste rock disposal site has been filed with the Utah Division of Oil, Gas and Mining by the Southern Utah Fuel Co.

The company is a subsidiary of Coastal States Energy Co., and officials want to dump development waste rock from the SUFCO coal mine. The site is about six miles west of the mine. The rock would be buried in compacted lifts within 100 feet of the county road that extends from Exit 72 on I-70 to the mine. The existing roadway will not be relocated, the permit application states.

The application may be reviewed in the division's office, 355 W. North Temple, 3 Triad Center, Suite 350, Salt Lake City, or in the Sevier County Courthouse, Richfield.
