The Deseret News Home and Summer Living Show moves into its second day Friday in the Salt Palace with a variety of entertainment and demonstrations, including ideas for preparing summer meals or outdoor picnics.

Sponsored in cooperation with the Home Builders Association of Great Salt Lake, this year's free show opened Thursday afternoon to thousands of visitors who found new ideas for their homes or ways to enjoy the summer.Doors open at noon Friday and close at 10:30 p.m. Among Friday's demonstrations will be microwave summer meals presented by Miriam Kienke of Utah Power Light at 1 p.m., followed by picnic ideas by Ann Allen, new Deseret News food editor, at 2 p.m.

At 5 p.m., Mountain Fuel Supply's Helen Evans will offer tips for "best- ever barbecues" with outdoor cooking.

Floral arranging and silk flowers by Modern Display, home security systems by Omni Security and information on the new "no-qualifier FHA loan" by Aim Mortgage Co. will round out the demonstrations.

Entertainment will be as much a part of this year's Home and Summer Living Show as the informative demonstrations and exhibits. A variety of performers - from boogie-woogie and comedy to bluegrass and barbershop - will entertain.

On Friday, the Salt Lake Good Time Jazz Band will perform at 3 p.m. on the entertainment stage followed at 7 p.m. by the Rocky Mountain Jubilee, a quartet that has performed since 1983 with shows for young and old.

Another feature of the show is an information area set up by HBA with large colored photographs of 12 new homes constructed by its members. The new dwellings, featured in the organization's annual Showcase of Homes, are located throughout Salt Lake and south Davis counties.

After visiting the Salt Palace exhibits, showgoers are invited to visit the homes during regular open house activities during the week.

On Saturday the show opens at noon and closes at 10 p.m. The following is the schedule for the second day of the three-day show:
