An abandoned section of U-65 between Parley's Canyon and the Little Mountain Summit will be closed permanently Monday, Salt Lake City Public Utilities Department officials said Friday.
The section of U-65 is in the area where the city, Salt Lake County and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers are building the new $51.3 million Little Dell Dam."The closure is for safety reasons. Construction equipment is working in the area and trenches will be cut across the abandoned road," the department said.
The 20,500 acre-foot reservoir located about one mile upstream from the Mountain Dell Dam is scheduled to be completed in 1991. It will provide culinary water for up to 30,000 Salt Lake-area residents.
The Corps of Engineers is paying 59 percent of the construction costs, with the city and county paying the remainder.
