Three Utahns died and four were injured in a Saturday afternoon four-vehicle accident on U-91 in Sardine Canyon in northern Utah, a Utah Highway Patrol trooper said.
DEAD:Shannon Maxwell, 31, Sandy.
Andrea Maughn, 8, Salt Lake City.
Carol Anderson, 49, Logan.
Maxwell was driving north when her vehicle apparently drifted across the center-line and side-swiped a southbound vehicle driven by Gary Hulsey, 22, Logan, who was uninjured.
Her vehicle then struck head-on another southbound vehicle driven by John Anderson, 50, also of Logan, Trooper Leon Jensen said.
Maxwell's vehicle then spun around and was struck by a fourth vehicle driven by Brad Brown, 23, also of Logan. Brown was also uninjured.
Maxwell's daughter, Amanda, 15 months, Sandy, was taken to Primary Children's Hospital and was in critical condition Saturday afternoon, Jensen said.
Alex Hofenis, 3, Salt Lake City, was riding in the Maxwell vehicle, and was in serious condition Saturday at McKay-Dee Hospital, Jensen said.
The Maughn child, who died in the accident, was also a passenger in the Maxwell vehicle. In the Anderson car, Carol Anderson was killed in the head-on collision and her son, Jeremy, 15, was taken to Brigham City Community Hospital where he was in satisfactory condition Saturday, a hospital spokeswoman said. The driver, John Anderson, was in very critical condition at McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden, a spokeswoman said.
