A young Cache County man has pleaded no contest to charges in the Valentine's Day beating of two Logan teenagers, but he still faces felony assault charges in an attack on a North Logan man later that night.

Shayne Rhodes, 18, Millville, pleaded no contest to charges of assaulting the two Logan teens. In return for the plea, 1st Circuit Judge Robert Daines dismissed one other count of simple assault and two counts of disorderly conduct, all misdemeanors.

Sentencing was set for June 10, and city attorney Doug Brady said he will ask for the maximum sentence, which is six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.

On May 9, Tracy Kendrick, 19, Providence, received a similar sentence in the same beatings.

Rhodes and Kendrick will return to court Friday for a preliminary hearing on charges of aggravated assault, a third-degree felony. They are charged in the severe beating of H. Dean Hawker, 36, North Logan, in a gravel pit east of North Logan about six hours after the two teens were attacked.
