Salt Lake County Commissioner Dave Watson has pleaded not guilty to a drunken driving charge.
The plea, mailed this week to the South Salt Lake Justice Court by defense attorney Ron Yengich, also seeks a jury trial, a court clerk said Wednesday.Watson was arrested May 15 after a South Salt Lake police officer noticed him driving erratically near 2100 S. State.
A small vial containing suspected cocaine was found on Watson. No drug-related charges have been filed but the case is still being investigated by special prosecutor Steven Hansen.
Watson, a Democrat, has announced he intends to complete his term as county commissioner but has withdrawn from the race for re-election.
