Dr. Charles D. Mellon, a psychiatrist and researcher in the University of Utah Department of Psychiatry, has been awarded $25,000 in the 1988 National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Depression Fellowship Award Program.
Mellon was cited for his work which involves studying families that have a clear genetic pattern of major psychiatric illness to learn if abnormal or missing proteins contribute to the disorders. He will study large families in the Utah area, because they generally have close ties and accurate genealogical records which should aid genetic research.
