Looking for a Father's Day gift for the man who has everything? How about a bridge?
It's not just any bridge. It's a historic, 80-year-old bridge that spans the Weber River in downtown Henefer, Summit County. And it's free for the taking. The Utah Department of Transportation is offering the bridge to anyone who will remove it from its current location. Because of structural deficiencies, UDOT is planning to replace the 68-foot bridge.
The bridge, one of only five pin-connected Pratt Pony truss bridges in the state, is eligible for inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places.
Preference will be given to those applicants who can move the entire bridge to a location that would allow it to remain eligible for the National Register. Federal money up to $12,400 is available to help defray the costs of moving the bridge.
