More than 200 well-wishers thronged the Senate Labor Committee's hearing room Wednesday night to bid farewell to Francis Madsen, administrative assistant to Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah.

Madsen has been named president of the Boston, Mass., mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.Hatch said Madsen's departure will be a great loss to him, and members of Congress, lobbyists, reporters and Congressional staff members thanked Madsen for his service.

Madsen came to Washington when Hatch was elected to the Senate in 1976. Hatch was one of Madsen's counselors when Madsen was bishop of the East Millcreek 10th Ward in Salt Lake City before Hatch ran for the Senate.
