An engine room fire broke out Friday aboard the 3,335-ton British passenger and freight ferry European Trader in the English Channel 30 miles off the southeast English coast, the coast guard reported.
The blaze was believed to have been brought under control by the ferry's crew and nobody was reported injured, coast guard officials at the southeast port of Dover said in a statement.
A crewman died Monday on the 5,917-ton Seafreight Freeway and another was badly burned when fire broke out in the freight ferry's engine room.
The Seafreight Freeway owned by Sealink U.K. Ltd. had been on its way to the Belgian port of Zeebrugge, outside which the British passenger and freight ferry Herald of Free Enterprise capsized in March 1987, killing 193 people.
