Lourraine Peterson was installed as the new president of the Salt Lake Council of Women at a luncheon held recently at Little America.

Other new officers are Ardith Miller, president-elect; Donna Jewell, vice president; Edna Price, recording secretary; Gladys Walz, corresponding secretary; Ruth Ellen Rands, treasurer; Virginia Carlson, historian; Olive Coombs, auditor; Ila Bishop, chaplin, Madeline Parker, parliamentarian and Elizabeth Hindley, flag custodian.The Salt Lake Council of Women received a "Certificate of Service" from Utah Girls Village, as did Sue Harry who was in charge of the committee this year.

In charge of the installation luncheon were Eleanor Kondo Ream, chairwoman, assisted by Jennie Win-dle, Fern Michael, nancy Wright, Della Sorensen and Olive Coombs.

The Salt Lake Council of Women works for civic improvement. During the past year the group has collected food and clothing for the Community Services Council; Christmas stockings were stuffed for the Family Shelter; and numerous volunteer efforts were directed toward Utah Girls Village. Assistance has been given to the Christmas Homebound Project, the Salt Lake County Detention Center and the University of utah Health Science Center Psychiatric Ward.

Books have been collected for a special school of refugee children; the council has helped to establish a birthday room at Ronald McDonald House, and it continues to provide support for the International Peace Gardens, a park it was instrumental in starting.
