Sen. Jake Garn, R-Utah, has urged House members to take action on a Senate-passed bill he sponsored to allow Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children in Salt Lake City to build a new hospital complex.
The existing Shriners Hospital is built on land bought from the United States in 1946, with a clause directing that it revert to the government if it is sold. The Shriners want to sell the land and use the proceeds for construction of a new hospital. Garn's bill would remove the reversionary clause.
