A member of the Oklahoma National Guard was killed when he touched a high voltage line while doing electrical work at Palmerola air base, a U.S. Embassy spokesman said.

Oklahoma National Guard Col. Bill Francis identified the victim as Sgt. David Alvin Brown, 21, of Sperry, Okla.Brown was in Honduras with the 245th Aviation Battalion of Sperry for two weeks of annual training, Francis said Tuesday in Oklahoma City. The battalion was due back in Oklahoma on May 13, he said.

The embassy spokesman, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the victim died Sunday at the base, about 40 miles north of Tegucigalpa.

The United States maintains about 1,100 troops in Honduras. Additional troops and National Guardsmen come on temporary duty for joint exercises conducted every few months with the Honduran armed forces.
