A U.S. Forest Service archaeologist has won a special award for his work in developing and designing the new Fremont Indian State Park in Sevier County.
Bob Leonard, archaeologist for the Fishlake National Forest, received the Outstanding Citizen Award, presented by the Utah Division of Parks and Recreation.Leonard worked many long hours without pay, said Gordon Topham, park superintendent, and his advice in the area of archaeology was important to park officials.
During the time the museum was being built, Leonard worked with cultural material, filed papers and organized volunteer work groups for trail development. Without his efforts development of the park would have been much more difficult, Topham said.
