West Valley City is looking cleaner, thanks to the work of Stansbury Elementary School children.

Many of the 240 students in the Granite District school's fourth through sixth grades joined to pick up litter and were rewarded this week for their efforts. The children, who collected 160 large bags of trash during the West Valley Area Chamber of Commerce and city's "Looking Good" cleanup campaign, were presented a $400 check.

Mayor Brent F. Anderson presented the money, donated by West Valley businesses and organizations, to the school, which for the second consecutive year filled the most trash bags among 18 participating elementary schools.

Principal R. Kent Johnson said the Stansbury students did very well, considering they had just three to four days to complete the task. He said the students worked mainly during wet weather but seemed happy to be helping their neighborhoods.

Anderson said overall trash collected in this year's drive is expected to exceed last year's 160 tons.
