The perjury and fraud trial of impeached Gov. Evan Mecham and his brother, Willard, will go ahead as scheduled May 19, a judge ruled Friday.
After a short hearing, Superior Court Judge Michael Ryan denied a request from the Mechams for a stay.The former governor and his brother are charged with concealing a $350,000 loan to the 1986 gubernatorial campaign on state-required financial disclosure forms. Mecham is charged with six felony counts and Willard Mecham, the campaign's treasurer, with three counts.
