An Army sergeant decorated for heroism in Vietnam was convicted by a military jury Friday of attempted espionage for trying to deliver military documents to the Soviet Union.
Daniel Richardson, 42, a 19-year veteran who served 21/2 tours in Vietnam and was awarded a commendation for heroism, could be sentenced to life in prison by the seven-member jury.Richardson, a former instructor at the Tank Turret Division at the Aberdeen Proving Ground, was arrested by FBI agents Jan. 14 during a sting operation at the Aberdeen Holiday Inn.

One day earlier, Richardson attempted to pass a circuit board from the turret of the Army's M1 tank to the Soviets for $50,000.
