* Utahn Bill Ripley has been awarded a 1988-89 Dobie Paisano Writing fellowship by the University of Texas.
Ripley will spend six months residence at the late Frank J. Dobie's ranch near Austin to work on a work in progress, "Big, Two-Hearted Sammy."Ripley grew up near Austin. He will soon receive his doctorate in English from the University of Utah.
