A fire that apparently began in a room where films were stored caused about $210,000 damage to the Malibu home of director Steven Spielberg Sunday night and destroyed the home of his neighbor, director Walter Hill, officials said. Both homes were unoccupied and there were no injuries in the blaze that was first reported at 6:36 p.m., Los Angeles County Fire Department Capt. Derek Reyna said.

The fire began in Spielberg's massive two-story home and had spread to Hill's house when firefighters arrived. The flames lit up the night sky over the exclusive coastal community where the average cost of a home ran about $500,000 last year.

It took 35 firefighters 50 minutes to contain the blaze, which caused an estimated $160,000 damage to Spielberg's home and another $50,000 to its contents, Reyna said.
