Pioneer Steel and Tube Distributors in Denver, Colo., will open a manufacturing and processing plant in Orem sometime in August.
Two buildings totaling 45,000 square feet are under construction west of the Geneva Steel Pipe Mill, a spokesman said. The new facility will expand Geneva's pipe product line, help eliminate seasonal production swings and maintain a stable work force for both companies, said Pioneer's president and owner Steven J. Livingston.
"Our new Utah pipe facility will create a package of pipe products, whose size range is the largest in the United States, produced and marketed from one location," Livingston said.
Geneva officials said they are pleased to lease the land to Pioneer as part of Geneva's efforts to expand its markets and improve the local economy.
Fifteen to 18 people will be hired initially, and Livingston estimates an increase to 30 jobs after the first six months of operation.
