Steve Jackson and Chubb Tangaraw combined on a three-hitter to lead the New Zealand national team to a 3-1 victory over Salt Lake's Page Brake. The exhibition game at the Cottonwood Complex kicked off the biggest week of the year in local men's fastpitch softball, which continues with the New Zealanders facing Miller Toyota (7 p.m.) and Carpetowne (9 p.m.) in exhibitions tonight and moves into the Pioneer Days tournament schedule Friday through Sunday.

Neal Chadwick reached on an error and scored Page's run on Neal Howe's single in the second inning. The game was tied until the fifth, Jimmy Hall's double helkped New Zealand score two runs. The New Zealand pitchers combined for 13 strikeouts.

In a second exhibition, Kevin Jensen's three-run homer lifted the Cottonwood Travel League's Division II All-Stars to an 8-7 win over the Utah Kiwis, a collection of the New Zealanders who play for local teams.
