A Woods Cross man pleaded not guilty Tuesday in 2nd District Court to eight first-degree felony charges of sodomy upon a child, rape of a child, and aggravated sexual abuse of a child. He is also charged with one count of showing pornographic material to a minor.

Steven L. Tingey, 47, of 875 W. Fifth South, faces prison terms of five years to life on each first-degree felony charge. In addition, six of the charges carry minimum mandatory terms of five, 10 or 15 years and the remaining two have three-, six-, or nine-year minimum mandatory terms.The harmful materials charge is a third-degree felony and carries a 0-5-year prison term.

Tingey pleaded not guilty and was scheduled by Judge Douglas L Cornaby for a Sept. 15 trial, with a Sept. 6 pre-trial hearing.

The incidents occurred between May 1984 and July of this year, according to court records, in Tingey's former home in Bountiful and his current Woods Cross home. The victims are two 10-year-old girls and a 14-year-old boy, court records indicate.

The charges include four counts of sodomy upon a child, two counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, and two counts of rape of a child, in addition to the harmful materials charge. The sodomy upon a child and rape of a child charges each carry the five-, 10-, or 15-year minimum mandatory prison term.
