Secretary of State George Shultz, en route to the funeral of President Mohammad Zia ul-Haq in Pakistan, met briefly Friday with a top aide to Egyption President Hosni Mubarak in Cairo to renew U.S. commitment to peace in the Middle East, officials said. Shultz met with Mubarak's senior political adviser, Osama El-Baz, on a brief stopover on his way to the Pakistan capital of Islamabad to represent the United States at the funeral of Zia, who died Wednesday along with the U.S. ambassador in the crash of a military transport plane.
