Forty students will not be bused from Nephi to Mona to attend elementary school there.

Juab District Superintendent Kirk Wright said after the school board learned the district would receive state money for Mona Elementary, the board voted to scrap the voluntary busing plan in favor of the other alternatives. The board had thought busing 40 students from Nephi Elementary to Mona Elementary might equalize classes. If the students were bused from Nephi to Mona, however, the district would no longer qualify for the state money for small schools.

The superintendent met with parent groups and the parent volunteers. "It was the general consensus and tenor of the groups that it would be better to do just what we have suggested and leave the enrollment at both schools as is," explained Wright.

"It will be to the advantage of the district not to jeopardize the small schools money by busing students to Mona," explained Wright.
