Farmington City Recorder Dona Scharp was recently honored for her work in keeping the city's financial reports in shape. The city, too, received a national award but Scharp was singled out as the individual responsible for the city's checkbook.

The city received a certificate of achievement for excellence in financial reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada. Farmington is one of 700 cities honored nationally, nine of them in Utah. With a population of 8,000, it is also the smallest city in Utah singled out.As Farmington's recorder and finance officer, Scharp received the association's Award of Financial Reporting Achievement, presented by Arthur Hunter, president of the Utah Municipal Finance Officers Association and Sandy City's finance director.

In its letter notifying the city of its award, the GFOA noted the certificate is "the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management."
