With a 46 percent increase in sales for the fiscal year ending March 31, Telos Field Service Engineering, 98 N. 500 West, is about to move into a new building in Woods Cross.

Mark W. Hester, division president, said the company will vacate its present 6,000 square feet of space Sept. 9 for a 2 million square-foot building at 530 W. 1500 South that has been built to the company's specifications and leased.Telos Field Service Engineering is a wholly owned division of the Telos Corp., Santa Monica, Calif., and is a third-party computer maintenance and repair company handling personal and commercial computers through its warehouse and service center.

Hester said the move into the new building will allow the consolidation of two warehouses in North Salt Lake with the Bountiful service center and administrative offices. It will mean 10 additional jobs, he said.

Telos Field Services Engineering has 90 employees and 275 employees in 36 different states, many of whom are permanently stationed in the federal installations or companies where they maintain and repair computers from 100 different manufacturers.

Founded in 1969, TFSE once was located in the Wasatch Building in Bountiful but four years ago moved to its present location and now because of the company's tremendous growth, more space is needed.

Hester said the division also keeps adding offices in Utah in addition to the employees stationed at Hill Air Force Base, Tooele Army Depot, Utah Department of Employment Security and the ExpoMart.

In 1976, Telos Corp. decided to get into the computer maintenance and repair business and was the successful bidder on a contract to maintain and repair the HAFB computers. The company hired Ray Thompson from Unisys.

Thompson hired a crew, which eventually became the division, and gradually additional clients were added and sales increased. Thompson, who still lives in Bountiful, is vice president of the corporation and chief executive officer of the Computer Hardware Services Group.

Hester became TFSE president last April, succeeding Thompson. Hester has been with the company for 10 years, starting on a repair and maintenance contract the company had at Fort Polk, La., as the first IBM-qualified maintenance technician Telos had.

He was there for one year and then moved to Fort Sill, Okla., where he stayed only six months. Then he went to Columbus, Ga., where he helped maintain the computers at Fort Benning. Ga., for three years and six years ago came to Utah.
