One of the Soviet Union's largest newspapers Wednesday detailed an accord that led to the 1940 takeover of three Baltic republics. The report appeared a day after thousands of residents protested the pact. The full-page article in Sovietskaya Rossiya provided the first chance for many Soviets to learn details of the agreement between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union. Papers in the Baltic republics of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia also have published details of the agreement. On Tuesday people jammed parks and squares to mark the 49th anniversary of its signing. Authorities allowed the demonstrations, and there were no reports of violence or arrests.
