The Israeli army lifted most curfews in the West Bank Tuesday as Palestinians in the occupied territories observed a general strike in support of deported Arab activists.
An army spokesman said the curfews on more than 100,000 residents of Nablus, the West Bank's largest Arab city, and a nearby Palestinian refugee camp were lifted.Last week, and at other times during an eight-month-old Palestinian uprising against Israeli rule in the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip, the army imposed curfews on strike days to prevent violence.
