An 8-year-old and a 6-year-old were struck by a vehicle Saturday afternoon as they ran across Seventh East and Sixth South, Salt Lake police said.

Carlos Santiago, 6, and Robert Provincial, 8, were going east in a crosswalk at the intersection when the light changed and a car in the outer lane struck them, said Lt. Norm Thompson.Santiago was in critical condition with head wounds at Primary Children's Medical Center, and Provincial was treated and released for leg injuries suffered in the 4:40 p.m. accident, a hospital spokeswoman said.

The driver's view was blocked by a car in the middle lane and he did not see the children, said Thompson.
