The Utah Education Association is looking for a few good teachers and principals.

The state's largest teachers union is now accepting nominations for UEA's annual teacher and principal of the year awards, with winners to be announced at the 15,000-member organization's annual convention Oct. 13 in the Salt Palace.Nominees for the state's top principal must be UEA members, and at least 80 percent of the school faculty must endorse the nomination, according to competition rules.

The nominations, due by Sept. 13, must be accompanied by background information, including the nominee's educational philosophy, school and community activities and a brief biography and resume.

Meanwhile, the deadline for the teacher-of-the-year award nominations is Sept. 16. Each school district is entitled to one nomination.

Nominees will provide information on their professional and community activities, philosophy of teaching, personal teaching style, and personal background.

The winner of the state award will be placed in competition for national teacher of the year.
