Utah will receive $2.2 million because of a settlement in a nationwide lawsuit against Texaco, officials in the state attorney general's office said Friday.

The suit alleged Texaco violated crude oil price regulations by charging more than federal restrictions allowed.Almost every state will receive some money in the settlement, officials said. Texaco, which is reorganizing under Chapter 11 of the federal bankruptcy code, will pay the money in installments over five years.

The courts have required states to use the money for energy projects that benefit consumers.
