The year-old Mrs. Fields' Candy Factory in Park City is closed, but company officials said it will be re-evaluated and could possibly open again.

Owner Randy Fields said he decided to put his focus on the bakeries (La Petite Boulangerie), and that didn't allow him to concentrate on the candy business. The bakery operation is in Carson, Calif.Fields said the ice cream parlor also will be shut down and the former Dudler Building will be used exclusively for Mrs. Fields Cookie College. Mrs. Fields Cookies is operated by his wife, Debbie.

The company also has recently closed 85 of its 500 international cookie stores, but Sally White, public relations director for the Fields', said that was done in "selectively choosing markets for consolidation of the cookie stores. The closures were in the east and southeast parts of the country.

The Fields are still committed to Park City, White said, and will continue developing the Summit County Industrial Park, where anchor tenant Lucas Aerospace has broken ground. They also own the Main Street Mall, where the corporate headquarters of Mrs. Fields Cookies is located, the Egyptian Theatre and other Park City and Summit County real estate.
