The College of Eastern Utah in Price will conclude its Golden Anniversary Celebration with a series of events on the weekend of Oct. 7 and 8. All alumni are invited.
The 18-month observance began on Feb. 20, 1987, 50 years after Gov. Henry Blood signed the legislation establishing the college, said CEU President Michael A. Petersen. Its conclusion is 50 years after the doors were opened and the first classes were taught. The finale weekend begins Oct. 7 with a series of reunions for alumni at various locations in Carbon County.
A classic car parade at 10 a.m. Oct. 8 will kick off a full day of events. Following the parade, the cars will join other vehicles on the CEU campus for a "Golden Classics" car show.
Other events will include the dedication of a residence hall in honor of Elden B. Sessions, the college's first president; a campus open house, and a 50th birthday party with birthday cake.
The college will also award five "Golden Anniversary" scholarships in a random drawing. "We thought it would be fun to allow some of our students to attend school for the same amount it cost when we opened our doors. The five winners will be able to attend classes full time for a year and pay tuition and fees at the 1938 rate of $69.50," the president explained.
The evening will end with a dinner and formal Anniversary Ball in the CEU library.
Those attending reunions are also invited to a Sunday champagne brunch.
