Salt Lake's KEMX radio (AM-1320) is going to Cape Canaveral, Fla. next week. The station's news director, Chris Maathuis, will broadcast live morning and afternoon news reports from the Kennedy Space Center beginning Wednesday (Sept. 28) and continuing until Friday (Sept. 30).

Maathuis will report on Discovery's pre-launch, launch and post-launch progress and also plans on getting comments from Morton Thiokol personnel.

Michele Morrison will be anchoring the regular KEMX news reports while Maathuis is away.

KEMX is also starting a new sports feature Monday, "The Mark Eaton Report." The Utah Jazz Center will do a five-minute long NBA report every weekday at 5:15 p.m.

Eaton's first few topics will focus on free agency in the NBA, as well as capsule reports on each NBA team for the upcoming season.

Morgan Evans, program director for KEMX radio, made this comment about KSL radio's recent programming modification:

"KSL's move to talk-news intensive radio gives KEMX an opportunity to become the prime source of music on the AM dial. This should build KEMX's audience."
