Priesthood leaders in the London England Wandsworth Stake are gaining a greater appreciation for missionary work by serving "weekend missions" with full-time missionaries.
The idea for the weekend missions for the stake and ward leaders came at the conclusion of mini-missions for the stake's youths.Stake mission Pres. Alan Carter said several bishops in the stake have not served full-time missions. After spending a weekend as companions to full-time missionaries, those bishops have a greater understanding of the work.
Carter found an extra bonus while serving as a weekend missionary. He and his South African missionary companion went to the home of friends Carter had not seen in about five years. The friends, receptive to the visit, listened to the first discussion that evening and invited them to return.
The couple telephoned Carter later, with a "problem." The wife said she wouldn't let the Book of Mormon out of her hands, but her husband also wanted to read it. They asked Carter to bring them another copy as soon as possible. "I like that type of problem," said Carter.
