A crew of workmen gathered following Tuesday night's Cincinnati Reds-Houston Astros game to begin disassembling one of Texas' most famous landmarks.

The 474-foot exploding, animated scoreboard that thrilled close to 35 million fans of the Houston Astros in the last 24 seasons flickered for the last time Tuesday following the Astros 10-3 loss to the Reds. It is being removed to add 10,000 new seats.The Houston Sports Association, which owns the Astros and controls the Astrodome, made concessions to the Houston Oilers last fall when the team threatened to move to Jacksonville, Fla. With the addition of the seats, the scoreboard had to go.
