A Sandy man has admitted he broke into a Salt Lake woman's home in July and slashed her with a knife.

Jeffrey Dean Baker, 28, faces sentencing Sept. 16 before 3rd District Judge Homer Wilkinson on guilty pleas to second-degree felony burglary and third-degree felony assault.Baker admitted he broke into a woman's home, in the area of Sixth East and Downington Avenue, about 6 a.m. July 5.

When the woman resisted the masked Baker, who crouched by her bed, he attacked her with a knife, severing a tendon in her right hand, according to the charges and police reports.

Baker was apprehended a few blocks away. Police recovered the victim's purse, which had been taken during the burglary.
