A jury ordered the local Scouting council to pay $45,000 to a youth because he was sexually molested by his former Scoutmaster but rejected the boy's $10 million claim against the national Boy Scouts of America.

The Boy Scouts called the decision a vindication of their treatment of the complaint and of the Scouts' supervision of local councils that hire Scoutmasters.The Fairfax County Circuit Court jury had deliberated for five days after a six-week trial before deciding Wednesday that former Scoutmaster Carlton L. Bittenbender, a convicted pedophile, had molested the youth.
