The annual St. George World Senior Games will now be known as the Huntsman Chemical Corp. World Senior Games after Salt Lake industrialist Jon Huntsman presented $100,000 to the games' founders and pledged $100,000 annually in the future.
Huntsman presented his gift to John and Daisy Morgan, owners of the Hilton Inn of St. George, in a special ceremony last week at the annual St. George Chamber of Commerce Banquet at the Dixie Center. More than 200 civic and business leaders of the community attended the event. The first games, held in October 1988, attracted 1,126 participants from 39 states and three countries, Huntsman said. Each spent an average of $85 with a total of nearly $1.3 million generated during the games.
"I hope this year's games, to be held Oct. 16-17, will bring participants from all 50 states," Huntsman said.
