Solidarity leader Lech Walesa opened preliminary discussions Friday with Polish authorities on the future of the trade union that was banned in 1982, Solidarity spokesman Janusz Onyszkiewicz said. The talks opened in the secluded government villa outside Warsaw, Onyszkiewicz said. Both sides intended to have six subject groups, including a group dealing with the legal issues of Solidarity and another on the formation of the rural Solidarity.
