Slowly but surely Provo's roads should be getting better.
The City Council approved the issuance of $4 million in general obligation road bonds this week to begin the second phase of road repairs.Provo's road repair program is in its second year, and city officials say everything is on schedule. Of the $8 million to be issued, $3.7 has already been used.
In the November 1986 elections, the majority of Provo voters approved paying more property taxes to fund street improvements. The first phase of road construction began in 1987 when the initial $4 million was issued in general obligation bonds.
The first phase placed emphasis on arterials and secondary collectors, but this next year emphasis will be placed on primary collector areas, which means more of a headache for main street drivers.
Following a public hearing this week, the council passed a resolution approving the general terms of the bonds.
