The State Board of Regents on Friday authorized $4.2 million in bonds for construction of a biotechnology research facility at Utah State University.
The three-story, 35,000-square-foot facility will house the Utah Agricultural Experiment Station and biotechnology research projects from science, engineering and agriculture, said Evan N. Stevenson, USU vice president for academic affairs. The project, which had previously been approved by the regents and the Utah Legislature, will use no state appropriations.
Stevenson said the university will repay the bonds with overhead payments contained in research grants.
Construction will begin soon and is expected to take a year.
