A Utah federal judge on Tuesday sentenced a former state Social Services employee to five years probation on her guilty plea to two counts of mail fraud in a scheme prosecutors say diverted $25,000 in federal funds.
"I think this defendant is a candidate for probation," Judge Thomas Greene said in sentencing Delores Carr, Salt Lake City. "I think you can make it."In addition to probation, Greene ordered Carr to pay $5,970 in restitution to the HEAT program and perform 200 hours community service while maintaining full-time employment.
A Utah federal grand jury in March 1988 indicted Carr on four counts of fraud for illegally diverting money from the HEAT program during the winter of 1985-86.
