Nationally recognized engineer and former Brigham Young University professor Cliff S. Barton died Jan. 4, 1989, at his Provo home. He was 69.
In 1962, Dr. Barton, then chairman of civil engineering science at BYU, was elected to the executive committee of the National Society of Experimental Stress Analysis, a committee that directed the activities of a membership of thousands of engineers and scientists nationwide. He also served as president of the American Society of Civil Engineers.Dr. Barton earned a bachelor of science from Utah State University and master's and doctoral degrees in engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y.
Barton was past president of the Timpanogos Golf Foundation and a founder of the Utah Valley Interclub. He was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Funeral will be Jan. 7 at 11 a.m. in the Provo Oak Hills Stake Center, 1600 N. Ninth East, Provo. Friends may call one hour before to the service. Burial will be in Preston, Idaho.
In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested donations to the Cliff S. Barton Memorial Trust through the First Security Bank office in Provo.
