To make it easier for adopted persons and their birth parents to find each other, the Utah Department of Health is offering a Mutual Consent Voluntary Adoption Registry.

The registry is administered by the Bureau of Vital Statistics.Adoptees born in Utah, their birth parents and the adoptee's brothers and sisters may use the service. A form available from the bureau must be used to provide identifying information to the registry.

John Brockert, bureau director, said the information is stored in computer files. A computer program compares each new application with all others in search of a match. When the bureau receives matching applications, identifying information goes to both applicants.

Brockert said because the the service must be operated without state funds, a $50 fee must be included with each application. The fee entitles participants to lifetime inclusion in the registry and an unlimited number of computer scans in search of a match.
