The Riverdale City Council, with Mayor Leon Poulsen casting the tie-breaking ballot, has voted against renewing the business license for a video store owner who pleaded guilty to distributing pornography.
Police Chief Glenn Clary, who had requested the license be revoked, reported that Wilmot had spent 14 days in the Weber County Jail for his offense and been fined $600. Clary also said that during a recent visit to the store, no pornographic material was found. But Clary reminded the council that Wilmot had been warned about distributing X-rated videos a year ago, and not only did he ignore the warning, the situation worsened.
"He was selling triple-X-rated material when the city decided to prosecute," Clary said.
City officials have given Wilmot until Jan. 31 to close out his business.
