BYU junior forward Andy Toolson underwent surgery Sunday on his left thumb to repair a fracture he sustained in last Thursday's loss to New Mexico.

A screw was inserted into the thumb. He is expected to be out a minimum of four weeks, but doctors indicated he could miss the rest of the season. If he comes back in four weeks it would allow him to play in BYU's final nine regular season games.Toolson said school officials are checking with the NCAA about a hardship ruling to allow him to resume as a junior next season.
